1. EXPLORE IT!
For forty days after rising from the dead, Jesus appeared to His disciples many times. They have seen him and recognized him. Now Jesus leaves His friends to return to His Father in heaven. His disciples won’t be alone since He promises to send the Holy Spirit.
2. CONNECT IT!
Jesus died, risen on the third day, and ascended into heaven forty days later. The Ascension of Jesus is not about the end of His mission on earth, it is about the beginning of the Catholic Church with the arrival of the Holy Spirit as Jesus promises.
Even though we can’t see Jesus like His first disciples did, He’s still here with us. He is present in His Church, in His words, and in the Eucharist. He is patiently waiting in the Tabernacle to meet you. It is up to you to go and meet Him.
3. REMEMBER IT!
“…and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in His name to all the nations…” (Luke 24:47)
4. LIVE IT!
Patience – the ability to wait for a long time without becoming annoyed or upset. Jesus’ disciples waited patiently for the Holy Spirit after Jesus ascended into heaven. When the Holy Spirit came, they were joyous and confident; they were no longer being scared. Patience prepared them to receive the Holy Spirit and His spiritual gifts. They set out to announce the incredible news: Jesus, the Son of God who was crucified, has risen.
This week, let’s practice the virtue of patience by waiting for things we want. It means not giving in to wanting something right away and instead waiting for a better reward later!
5. PRAY IT!
Dear Lord, thank you for loving me. Thank you for being so kind and patient with me. I want to love others just like You do. Please help me be patient with my (dad, mom, brother, sister, etc.). Lord, please fill my heart with patience. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
